Western Undercliff, Ramsgate: Hidden Beach by the Port

Explore Ramsgate’s Western Undercliff – a quiet, lesser-known beach with golden sand, dramatic sea defenses, and nearby rock pools. A peaceful spot south of the bustling Royal Harbour.

On the Kent coast, Western Undercliff Beach is a hidden treasure that may be found on the western side of Ramsgate. Compared to some of the busier beaches in the vicinity, this sandy beach offers a more serene and relaxed atmosphere, framed by chalk cliffs and a protective sea wall. The sea wall that extends down the rear of the beach and shields it from erosion and large waves is one of its distinguishing features.

Western Undercliff Beach is situated near the Port of Ramsgate. There is a chalk reef running along the bottom part of the rocky beach that leads to Pegwell Bay.  At the western portion of the beach is a seawater tidal pool.

The Royal Harbour Approach road provides access to the lower promenade. The many walkways and slopes provide breathtaking views of this dog-friendly beach. Heading south will lead to Pegwell Bay.
