Shellness Beach: Wild, Remote & Beautifully Untouched
Shellness Beach is a remote and peaceful spot at the tip of Sheppey. A haven for walkers, birdwatchers, and nature lover – perfect for escaping the crowds and soaking in unspoiled coastal views.
Shellness Beach is a remote, undeveloped beach at the eastern extremity of the Isle of Sheppey. It is well-known for its peace, quiet, and natural setting. Shellness Beach is a shingle beach with wide views of the Thames and Swale Estuaries located along a secluded, pristine length of coastline.
Because seashells are so plentiful along the beach’s shores, it is appropriately dubbed Shellness. It’s a terrific place for beachcombing, with a large variety of shells for shell collectors.
Naturist Beach at Shell Beach
Shell Beach, located near Shellness on the Isle of Sheppey, is one of the UK’s few beaches with a designated naturist section. Often confused with nearby Shellness Beach, only Shell Beach has an area where clothing is optional.
This remote and spacious spot attracts naturists looking for a quiet, non-judgemental place to unwind and enjoy nature. The naturist zone offers a sense of seclusion and freedom along the peaceful Kent coastline.
Please note: while naturism is accepted in the designated area, visitors are expected to respect local guidelines and others using the beach.
Swale National Nature Reserve
Shellness Beach is next to the Swale National Nature Reserve, providing tourists with access to a expanse of mudflats, grazing marshes, and protected salt marshes. These areas are home to a wide range of species, and hiking and nature hikes are popular activities in the reserve. For those who prefer both beach and nature activities, the reserve’s serene pathways provide an opportunity to get up close and personal with rare birds and other species. All year round, birdwatchers swarm to this region to witness a variety of species, notably during migratory seasons. This beach is a great place for nature enthusiasts because of the abundant wildlife in the neighbouring reserve.
Saxon Shore Way
The beach is a part of the larger Saxon Shore Way. Strollers can take pleasure in quiet paths that wind through the nature reserve and offer views over the estuary.
