There is only one way to get there: a steep flight of steps. Since the cliffs are prone to chalk collapses, kindly refrain from walking through the Kingsgate Arch. It is thought that the arch is brittle, and more chalk might fall from it.

History

The majestic Kingsgate Castle, which was first constructed by Lord Holland in the 1760s, stands watch over the coastline. Even though the castle has been turned into individual flats, it gives the beach a feeling of grandeur and antiquity. The reason the place is known as “Kingsgate” is that King Charles II is said to have landed there on his return to England in 1683.

Kingsgate Bay has a history associated with smugglers, similar to many other beaches on the Kent coast. Smugglers in the eighteenth century loved it for its secret caverns and remote settings. Even if there aren’t any smugglers around now, there’s still an air of mystery and fascination about the caverns and cliffs.
